Learn the craft behind the curtain — shop safety, stagecraft, and the practical math that makes scenery stand.
Real skills, real shows
Every six-week schedule includes three “Learn and Work” calls with students in the production and their families. These calls focus on direct instruction: students learn safety in the shop and theater on power tools, moving properties, proper stage calls, and correct order and procedure — along with mathematics, load calculations, figuring, and implementation in a practical environment.
Artistically, our efforts are based in art, design, and stagecraft theory; practical implementation with respect to scope and available resources; and collaboration with teachers in their respective environments. Each series of work calls is designed to produce a piece of scenery, costume, or similar element that actually plays in the students’ production.
